Turkey’s President, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, has proclaimed a notable enhancement in Ankara’s global standing following the successful hosting of the NATO Summit on July 7-8. Describing the summit as a historic achievement, Erdoğan highlighted the participation of prominent global figures, including U.S. President Donald Trump, as a testament to Turkey’s expanding influence in international diplomacy.
The event underscored Turkey’s rising prominence on the world stage, with NATO leaders recognizing the significance of easing restrictions on defense industry collaborations. Additionally, President Erdoğan announced that a Counter-Unmanned Systems Centre of Excellence will be established in Konya, Turkey, further solidifying the nation’s role within the alliance.
In conjunction with the summit, the Defence Industry Forum drew nearly 1,000 participants, which Erdoğan hopes will not only amplify Turkey’s international reputation but also boost its tourism sector. This strategic engagement is aimed at showcasing Turkey’s capabilities and contributions to defense and security discussions.
Erdoğan also emphasized his intent to enhance cooperation with the United States, setting an ambitious goal to increase bilateral trade to $100 billion. He reiterated Turkey’s dedication to fostering peace and stability within the region, underlining the strategic importance of strong U.S.-Turkey relations.
In a gesture of solidarity, President Erdoğan expressed his condolences to Qatar following the death of former Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, reflecting Turkey’s commitment to maintaining close ties with regional partners.
