Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has called for renewed vigor in Türkiye-U.S. relations, emphasizing the need for enhanced cooperation between the two NATO allies amid global conflicts and crises. Speaking at the “100 Years of Friendship Gala” in New York, Erdoğan highlighted the positive outcomes of their collaboration on international issues, particularly in the Middle East.
Erdoğan expressed Türkiye’s determination to strengthen coordination with Washington, suggesting expanded cooperation in sectors such as nuclear energy, liquefied natural gas, civil aviation, high technology, and defense. He advocated for the removal of barriers between the nations to increase opportunities for joint defense production, underscoring Türkiye’s burgeoning defense industry, which has seen annual exports soar from $248 million two decades ago to over $10 billion.
The Turkish president also encouraged U.S. investors to explore opportunities in Türkiye, pointing to new foreign investment incentives as part of Ankara’s competitive investment drive. This initiative aims to attract more international investment by providing a favorable framework for potential investors.
U.S. Senator Chris Coons, attending the gala, underscored the enduring partnership between Türkiye and the United States, noting the significant role of business ties and entrepreneurship in fortifying bilateral relations. This event served as a platform for senior officials and business leaders from both countries to celebrate the longstanding diplomatic and economic connections between them.
