In a focused effort to bolster maritime security and enhance defense capabilities, Türkiye has reiterated its commitment to technological independence, as highlighted at the recent Teknofest Blue Homeland event. During the closing ceremony, Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz emphasized the growing strategic importance of safeguarding Türkiye’s maritime interests, known as the “Blue Homeland,” against the backdrop of intensifying geopolitical competition and security concerns.
Hosted at Gölcük Naval Shipyard, the event showcased an impressive array of military assets, including 37 vessels and four aircraft. Notable displays included the TCG Anadolu, TCG Istanbul frigate, TCG Derya, and Murat Reis submarine, alongside domestically engineered unmanned maritime systems. The showcase underscored Türkiye’s advancements in integrating manned and unmanned platforms, utilizing artificial intelligence, autonomous systems, advanced sensors, and secure communication technologies.
Yılmaz highlighted that the defense industry’s localization rate has surpassed 80%, a testament to Türkiye’s growing self-reliance in defense manufacturing. This progress positions the country to further assert itself on the global stage as a leading defense exporter. The Vice President’s remarks underscore the country’s strategic vision to enhance its role in international defense markets while ensuring robust protection of its maritime domains.
Teknofest Blue Homeland also served as a platform for innovation, featuring competitions centered on unmanned underwater systems, maritime vehicles, and underwater technologies. These contests aim to inspire and cultivate the next generation of engineers and innovators in Türkiye, aligning with the nation’s broader goals of fostering technological advancement and self-sufficiency in critical sectors.
