Piyush Goyal, India’s Union Commerce and Industry Minister, recently engaged in discussions with Finland’s leadership, including Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Riikka Purra, as well as Minister of Economic Affairs Sakari Puisto. The meetings aimed at bolstering economic cooperation and enhancing trade and investment ties between India and Finland.

The dialogues emphasized expanding collaboration in pivotal sectors such as digitalisation, innovation, research and development, startups, and business partnerships. Both parties examined ways to deepen cooperation in emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, 6G, quantum technologies, semiconductors, space, and sustainability.

A significant part of the discussions centered around the proposed India-European Union Free Trade Agreement (FTA). The two countries explored how this agreement could boost bilateral trade, attract investment, and create new opportunities for businesses in both nations.

This diplomatic engagement comes at a time when India and the European Union are actively negotiating a comprehensive trade agreement. The goal is to strengthen economic relations and enhance cooperation across strategic sectors.
