Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan assured that Türkiye’s capital markets remain stable despite recent issues in the investment fund sector. Following a Cabinet meeting in Ankara, Erdoğan emphasized that the problems are confined to a specific segment of the fund market and do not threaten the broader financial system.
Erdoğan highlighted that the government is actively managing the liquidation of the affected funds and is implementing measures to safeguard financial stability and protect investors. He also promised that legal action would be taken against those responsible for any activities that have compromised market stability.
The concerns arose after authorities initiated investigations earlier this month into suspected share-price manipulation involving several thinly traded stocks. These developments have led to losses and increased withdrawal pressures on some investment funds.
Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek stated that legal proceedings are ongoing against those involved in the manipulation and assured that efforts to maintain financial stability will continue. Erdoğan is also scheduled to meet with economic officials and relevant institutions to assess the situation further and discuss additional measures for the fund market.
