Intense Rainfall Heightens Flood Risk in Istanbul, Warn Authorities

by admin477351

Heavy rainfall is intensifying across Istanbul, increasing the risk of flooding, waterlogging, and disruptions to transportation, according to the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality’s Disaster Coordination Center. The rainfall is predicted to strengthen around 11 a.m. after initially affecting parts of the city in the morning. The showers are expected to persist throughout the afternoon before gradually easing by 4 p.m.

Temperatures in Istanbul have dropped sharply with the arrival of cooler air, reaching around 14°C in the morning and remaining below seasonal averages throughout the day. This weather pattern, characterized by cold air aloft and warm, moisture-laden air near the surface, is anticipated to lead to thunderstorms, lightning, and strong showers.

Meteorological authorities have issued warnings for Istanbul and several provinces in the Marmara and western Black Sea regions, highlighting the possibility of sudden flooding, strong winds, lightning, and potential transport disruptions. Residents are advised to stay alert to changing weather conditions and take necessary precautions.

Weather conditions are expected to improve starting Thursday, with temperatures projected to rise to around 21°C and no significant rainfall forecast for the coming days. This change is likely to bring some relief to the affected regions, allowing for a gradual return to normalcy.
