by admin477351

Việt Nam and Denmark have elevated their bilateral relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, marking a significant step forward in their cooperation. This development was announced during a meeting between Vietnamese Party General Secretary and State President Tô Lâm and Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen in Copenhagen. The move comes as the two nations prepare to celebrate 55 years of diplomatic relations in 2026.

The new partnership aims to bolster political ties and expand collaboration in key economic and strategic areas such as trade, investment, renewable energy, and technology. Denmark is now the second European Union member state to form a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with Việt Nam.

Trade and investment were highlighted as core components of the upgraded relationship. Both leaders committed to enhancing the implementation of the EU–Việt Nam Free Trade Agreement, improving market access, and encouraging business participation in international supply chains. Denmark expressed a keen interest in increasing its investment in Việt Nam, focusing on high technology, environmentally friendly industries, and high-value-added projects. Tô Lâm welcomed the involvement of Danish companies like LEGO, Maersk, Pandora, Carlsberg, and Vestas, and called for stronger investment promotion to bring commitments to fruition.

Renewable energy and climate action are set to remain major priorities under the new partnership. Denmark has pledged to share its expertise and technology to aid Việt Nam’s shift to cleaner energy, enhance energy efficiency, and support the country’s goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. Plans include collaborating on large-scale renewable energy projects, particularly offshore wind power, and advancing the Just Energy Transition Partnership.

The agreement also emphasizes cooperation in science, technology, and education, with a focus on areas like artificial intelligence and biotechnology. Both countries plan to foster partnerships among universities, research institutes, and businesses, alongside promoting skills development. Further areas of cooperation include healthcare, the circular economy, and smart urban development.

On the international stage, both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to multilateralism and closer cooperation through the United Nations and other forums. They also emphasized strengthening ties between the European Union and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), with Việt Nam offering to facilitate Denmark’s engagement with ASEAN.

The meeting concluded with both sides expressing their readiness to translate the new partnership into practical outcomes. Frederiksen accepted Tô Lâm’s invitation to visit Việt Nam, underscoring a mutual commitment to advancing shared priorities.
